When I got back to the car a friend messaged me that a typhoon is approaching Okinawa this week and it made it have a hope again as this spring and beginning of summer as been a real wave draught. Let’s hope this turns into something good and produces some fun waves to surf.
Jun put together a few clips of me surfing out front in Okinawa. Here and there Jun breaks out the camera and shoots every surfer out there on the seawall and he had a few clips of me he was stashing and surprised me with this edit. I appreciate it very much. You can check out all of his videos on his Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/SURF2011OKINAWA
A long time resident of Okinawa and total ripper decided to put on a show in front of the camera for me as we scored some off shore reef waves that you needed to take a boat to. This was the first time I have ever been to this outside reef surfing on Okinawa and the surf was pretty good. It was worth all the efforts to get out there.
This is photo taken by the most underrated surf photographer I have ever met on Okinawa. His name is Seth Rice and his instagram handle is: happy_haole
I thought Seth was a pretty good surfer and he was a true shred dog for his time living on Okinawa. He will be thoroughly missed as he drys out in the desert of New Mexico. The good news is that Seth is knuckling down and pursuing a career in photography!
If you lurk on Magic Seaweed’s predictions for the week and see 6+feet/1.5 – 2.0+meter wave size with Northern directions you are going to find all of my favorite spots to surf on the West Side of Okinawa light up. I took some video at couple spots and I hope you like it! – Dave
There was an eerie feeling in the water this afternoon when we were surfing. Something seemed a little different and I found out once I came in from surfing some Okinawan waves that Trump won! It didn’t matter, the waves were still the same!
